Its years since I read the original books by Diana Galbaldon but this series reeled me right in as did the books at the time. Most enjoyable viewing. Look forward to viewing the next series.

The best historical romance written in books
and produced for TV!
Another series that is full of action, authentic and an exciting viewing spectical.
After serving as a British Army nurse in World War II, Claire Randall is enjoying a second honeymoon in Scotland with husband Frank, an MI6 officer looking forward to a new career as an Oxford historian. Suddenly, Claire is transported to 1743 where her freedom and life are threatened. To survive, she marries Jamie Fraser, a strapping Scots warrior with a complicated past and a disarming sense of humor.
A passionate relationship ensues, and Claire is caught between two vastly different men in two inharmonious lives. “Outlander” is adapted from the best-selling book series by Diana Gabaldon.
Outlander Reviews
“Though technically a time-travel tale, Outlander eschews the typical tropes. It’s more Peggy Sue Got Married poignant than Back to the Future geeky. There’s a subtly played allegorical aspect to Claire’s adventure, too. You could read her time-space odyssey as a Narnia-esque dream-fantasy, a way to process her war trauma and fluxy identity. There’s also a feminist interpretation: Claire — strong, intelligent, and sophisticated; married to a man who regards her as an equal — has gone down a rabbit hole into a misogynistic, patriarchal society. Outlander is good enough to inspire such overthinking. What makes it just plain good is the escapist fun of a romance told uncommonly well.” – EW.com
“It was enormously refreshing to see an epic, gruesome fantasy series told from a female perspective, and Balfe maintained a lovely balance of bewilderment at her situation, rational assessment and defiant competence in dealing with it.” – Daily Telegraph
