Paid up members of dance music's ruling class(cardholders: Underworld, Leftfield, Chemical Brothers and the Prodigy), Orbital were originally signed for a one off single deal with London Records. However, in April 2001 they released their 6th album The Altogether, hot on the heels of their most recent single Funny Break (One Is Enough). Prior to that, their last 3 albums have all charted in the Top 5.
They have remixed Madonna and turned an entire generation of indie/rock fans onto techno with their apprearence at Glastonbury in '94, which is now talked about in the same tones as Hendrix's appearance at Woodstock.
Orbital's next single 'Illuminate' features guest vocals from British nominee David Gray. To be released in 2001 to coincide with the DVD.
THE DVD: A unique release in that this is the first time that a band has released a DVD-video of their album. Intended to take the viewer on an aural and visual journey for each track, you are presented with various menus, which give access to interact and uncover hidden or different versions of tracks. Recorded in 5.1 Surround Sound, the DVD was designed to create a compelling interface to take the disc beyond being just an illustrated album, contains all 11 album tracks PLUS an exclusive 17 minute version of 'Meltdown' PLUS an interactive DVD Rom game.
To enhance their pioneering DVD concept, the band made a promo video for each album track with multi visual and multi audio live action pieces through to stunning animations. One of the promos features the ex-Play Away presenter Brian Cant.
The DVD (and album) contains the band's version of the Dr. Who theme, one of the highlights of their live set over the last couple of years. This track was added in response to the many requests from those disappointed that the track could only be heard at gigs.
Interactive, moving menus created by The Mill, who won an Oscar for their work on Gladiator.
