Lost Odyssey is an enjoyable role playing game.
The original minds behind Final Fantasy have come together under the
Mistwalker label and created a game that, in my opinion, rivals
it's Square-Enix counterparts.
The characters are well drawn out, and there are moments that will have you
entertained, laugh out loud and also parts which will pull on your heart
strings. It's a fine story played out well.
The music is done by legendary, Nobua Uematsu or Final Fantasy fame. The
melodies are well placed and suite the mood of each setting. Also, if you're
running a surround sound system, the 5.1 channel audio is immersive. i.e. You
can hear crisp droplets around you while you walk around in a dank cave or sewer
system.
The battle system is still very standard Japanese role playing fare. You open
the menu, choose the attack, spell or item then let rip! There is a ring system
for attacks as well, where you hold down the right trigger and release when both
circles overlap, to create an additional effect on your enemy. It's a nice
touch and keeps the gameplay fresh.
Overall, it was a wonderful story that entertained me over the expanse of all
4 discs and is now one of my favourite RPGs.
If you enjoy role playing games, this one should not be missed.
