In 1967, young Danish filmmaker Jørgen Leth made the short documentary 'The Perfect Human', a cocktail chic, tongue-in-cheek mediation on human behaviour.
In 2000, internationally acclaimed Danish director Lars von Trier challenged Leth to a cinematic duel: Leth was to remake the film five times, each time under more and more fiendish conditions imposed by the perversely playful Von Trier. First he must make the The Perfect Human with a maximum of 12 frames between edits, and shoot it in Cuba. As Leth meets each criterion, Von Trier ups the ante, imposing obstructions that are increasingly arduous to overcome.
Bravely soldiering on through, Leth demonstrates the breadth of human creativity in a documentary on filmmaking that is equally fascinating and visually stunning.
