This arrangement, for trombone quintet (or euphoniums and tuba), is scored for high school and above advanced-level players for use in both secular and sacred settings. It is also designed to be performed by a trombone choir.Playing in an ensemble provides musicians with the opportunity to experience the benefits of a group effort not found in solo work. This rendition of America the Beautiful is arranged so that all the parts, not just the first trombone (or lead part), therefore distributing the demands for the success of the group to everyone. This arrangement can be performed in about 4 minutes. Included with the purchase of the score are individual parts which may be photocopied for use during rehearsals and performances.

Author Biography:

Dr. Paul G. Young, Ph.D., has worked as a high school band director, elementary and junior high classroom teacher (grades 4, 5, and 7), nearly 20 years as an elementary school principal, and as an executive director of an afterschool program, all near the area of Lancaster, Ohio. For more than 45 years he has also served as an adjunct professor of music classes at Ohio University-Lancaster campus. He holds bachelor and masters degrees in music from the Ohio University School of Music. His doctorate, in Educational Administration, is also from Ohio University, Athens, Ohio. He served in leadership roles with both the National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP) and the National AfterSchool Association (NAA). He was elected as president of the 30,000-member NAESP in 2002-2003. He served as a member of the NAA Board of Directors starting in 2008 before becoming NAA's President and CEO in 2010. He retired from association work in 2012. He has written extensively on the topic of school and afterschool alignment, led training workshops throughout the country, and played an influential role in the development of practical, evidence-based alignment strategies for school leaders and afterschool professionals. He is the author of Enhancing the Professional Practice of Music Teachers: 101 Tips that Principals Want Music Teachers to Know and Do (Rowman and Littlefield-Education) as well as several other books for principal, music teachers, and afterschool professionals.
