Today Mighty Ape celebrates its eleventh birthday. Let's take a brief stroll
down memory lane to see how we got to where we're at today.
The Mighty Ape website went live on the evening of 26 September
2008. Customers who have been with us for a long time will know that the
company has actually been around a lot longer than that.
It all started way back in 1995 when Mighty Ape founder Simon Barton opened
a retail store called GameZone on Symonds St, in central Auckland. GameZone
quickly enjoyed a solid customer base consisting mainly of hardcore gamers, and
was the venue for many pizza-fueled release parties including the official NZ
release of the first Sony PlayStation. Our first web site launched a year later
(it was pink, and best viewed in Netscape Navigator 2.0!) as a simple tool to
update customers on new releases and gaming news.

Ngā mihi nui. Ko tēnei Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori. It's Māori Language Week
and at Mighty Ape we will be marking the occasion in several ways.
Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori (Māori Language Week) presents us with a challenge
to increase our use of the reo (language) and we're happy to accept the wero
(challenge). So in the spirit of that you will notice some more kupu Māori
(Māori words) on our Pukamata (Facebook), Pae Tīhau (Twitter), and īmēra (emails) this week.
If you are interested in learning or improving your te reo Māori we've got
some great books, movies, music,
toys, and more listed on our site including the popular Māori at Home series. Another great online
resource is Māori Dictionary. There are also several institutions where
you can take courses for free including AUT and Te Wānanga o Aotearoa.

Since the announcement last week about the retirement of our
Banana Points program we've received a lot of feedback from you all. We have
received many messages and comments from people who were pleased with the
change. We also received many messages from customers who weren't so pleased.
We've taken all of your feedback on board and have come up with some adjustments
to our plan to address this.
There were some common themes among the criticisms that we received. Mostly
people were concerned that their Primate subscription would go to waste if they
didn't get to choose when the subscription started, and many customers expressed
a desire to receive vouchers or account credit instead of Primate. We have
discussed these issues below, and the action that we will be taking.
“Can I choose when my free Primate subscription
starts?”
This is a great idea that would allow you to make the best use of your free
Primate subscription. We have adjusted our plan to allow for this. From May 28th
customers who qualify for a Primate subscription (excluding Trade Accounts) will
be given the option to convert their remaining Banana Points balance into a
Primate subscription at a date of their choice until 31 December 2019. If you
are an existing Primate customer you will still need to convert your Banana
Points to Primate by 31 December 2019, your subscription will be extended by
the period determined by your Banana Points balance. You will have until
31 December 2019 to activate your Primate subscription, all outstanding Banana
Points will be written off after this date. This means that you can activate
your Primate subscription when it's most convenient to you so that you can make
the most of its benefits.
