Top 5 Kiwi gigs to check out during NZ Music Month!

By Dan

New Zealand Music has come a long way and is starting to make waves with people all over the world. We're lucky enough to live here, so we've put together this handy list of the top 5 homegrown gigs you should check out during may!

Without further ado, here are our top 5!

#5 – Covered – Celebrating the incomparable songbook of New Zealand music

‘Covered’ brings together a range of much loved local artists to tear the roof off at the Kings Arms Tavern and perform covers of their favourite homegrown classics.

Each artist will play 2–3 cover songs along with one of their original hits. We're personally super excited to see Tami Neilson do her thing!

It should be a great night for all involved!

#4 – Trinity Roots – Celebrating the release of their superb third album

The Wellington trio just released their first album in 10 years – Citizen.

The album still holds true to the classic fusion of Reggae, Funk, Rock and jazz.

Accompanied by politically charged lyrics, this album is sure to make any Kiwi stop and think a bit harder about the current state of the nation.

3# – Jamie McDell – Kiwi Folk has a new Queen

Riding a wave of success from her latest single Crash, Jamie McDell is delighted to announce her upcoming tour in support of her sophomore album.

Ask Me Anything takes Jamie’s music to the next level, experimenting with different styles of production while remaining true to her acoustic guitar roots.

It's sure to make for a perfect soundtrack to a never-ending summer.

#2 – Anika Moa – Playing tracks from her new album Queen At The Table

Riding high on the buzz from her new album, Anika Moa is set to play an intimate gig at the The Powerstation!

Instead of playing on a stage, Anika has instead decided to play on the floor with the audience all around her and the band.

The goal is to make this as comfortable a gig as possible because Anika Moa is a super chill lady that knows exactly how to please her fans!

#1 – Shihad – Blessing us with epic performance of iconic second album Killjoy

Grand masters of New Zealand Rock, Shihad recently celebrated the 20th anniversary of their album “Killjoy” with a remastered release of the Kiwi classic.

The album propelled Shihad into the forefront of rock and even received high praise and a bunch of new fans all over the world.

The boys are set to rip through the entire album which is a must see for any fan of NZ Rock or just good music in general!

There's a TONNE of other stuff happening this month so be sure to show your support for your favourite local artist this May. Lets make it a Music Month to remember!
