As I was starting out in the hobby I often looked for cheaper brush alternatives – but I can admit these are worth it. The bristles hold up and keep their shape really well. Just do it. Buy Citadel. I know I hate caving to the man as well, but don't suffer through inadequacy for your hobby.
Surprised by the quality of the brush when it arrived. IÂ new it wouldn't compare to the quality of my winsor & newton brushes, but IÂ previously purchased a citadel medium layer brush and it has performed very well and held a point very well. This brush arrived, multiple bristles already curling, the hairs splitting and forming 3Â points instead of a single fine point and despite using high quality brush restorer and fashioning it to a point, it fails to hold one. The only reason this is 2Â stars is because the rest of the brush is reasonable, the ferrule is nice and the brush itself seems to be sturdy with a nice paint job/polish.
