Woah, holy shiznit… I had to come back to place another review, as the one prior was entirely premature and I am in awe. I have just finished this game – wait until the half way point prior to making any judgments. It is FREAKING AWESOME. There are so many ideologies wrapped in this baby, and as long as you choose the hardest possible option you will love this for sure if you are a JRPG fan (of the jap fantasy kind) – or call me crazy.

There are some bits borrowed from other games here – but not enough for it to feel like a rip off, and lets face it many JRPG's share either Japanese mythology, ideologies and/or a mix of nature elements with future tech for balance (fantasy ones anyway).

This took me on so many turns after around about 70% into the game, and the small amount of anime movies (very short and not inclusive of cut scenes), were very well done.

Have only played through as Mila, but will give it a crack as Jude to fill in some of the blanks (but not just yet), I need to have a break and gain some of my life back. Keep pursuing with this, set it on hard and enjoy the ride – by the time its over you will not regret it. 9/10 – Awesome. (Only reason it is not getting a 10 is that the spot is reserved for Xenoblade in my heart!!!)

"One of the best Tales games i've played."

I don't regret getting this game. It is amazing, and I completely understand why they're is a second Tales of Xillia out in japan. I hope that it comes out in English so I have a chance to follow on with this fantastic title.

This game is most likely going to have the best JRPG game for PS3 award, until TO:Symphonia comes idk which is better but judging by this game, ill still choose tales of xillia over any JRPG other than TO: Xillia 2. Thanks for reading!!~

"If you played any of the other Tales games, do not play this one"
1 stars"

I have been playing Japanese, Korean and Cantonese games for almost thirty years, and this is by far the worst. The story, compared to any other Tales game, is clumsily put together in a mass of nonsensical cliches and illogical connections. The characters, aside from the two older party members, are forgettable and this is compounded by very weak sexual innuendos, mainly at the expense of the two main characters.

The gameplay, while on paper should be interesting, is a mess. Any degree of difficulty is substituted with anime-like images of the characters doing battle shouts and ‘complex’ ways of inputting special attacks. I played this game from start to finish on the ‘Hard’ difficulty without using the pointless ‘Grade Shop’ and was able to complete the special bosses and the main game without problems. Gone are the days of level 200+; you can only get to level 99 here and I got to level 86 without many problems. They have also decided to get rid of the ‘find components to make new weapons’ system; now you can buy everything by increasing a shop's ‘level’, ie. Bribing the shop owners with ‘donations’.

This is a mild introduction to the Tales universe and if you are looking for something that does not require much thought, ability and the like, this is the game for you. If you are looking for more, you will be sadly disappointed.

I recently bought the original Japanese version of this game and, while I can understand stand what is going on, my wife, who does not, noticed no difference in the storytelling, although I do admit that the original Japanese voice acting is a cut above the English version's.

The game starts a little slow, but the plot gets pretty amazing. Combat mechanics are great. Great series to get into. Note: Very very long game.

"Quite Enjoyable"

Gameplay is quite fun and different from your usual JRPG, story isn't cliche either and offers enough to keep you sucked in from start to finish…

I would recommended it if you want a good JRPG fix, it's well worth it!

"RPGs need story"

Most JRPGs have weird story lines that still draw you in, this segment of the “Tales of” series is a prime example! The major twists you experience are placed perfectly into the story to make you want more, and it's worth all the play time
