Sanctuary - Season 1: Special Edition reviews

If you liked the fast talking technogeek Colonel Carter from SG1, you'll be pleasantly surprised with the Queens English Amanda Tapping speaks effortlessly, considering her natural Canadian accent. In one episode Dr Magnus sounds more from Hackney rather than London. This series began life on the internet as webisodes. Quite a few appearances appear from the Stargate clan. Overall its a rivetting story with several subplots and a couple of backstories as we see Dr Magnus in Victorian times with the likes of John Druitt (Jack the Ripper), Nikola Tesla (Vampire), and Dr Watts (Sherlock Holmes). Sanctuary For All is the motto where any ‘monster’ can be invited to live out their lives as they are in various habitats on the estate. But there will always be factions that fight the do-gooders. A black-ops unit tries to capture ‘monsters’ for their own fiendish plans. Its a pleasant surprise to find an action adventure of paranormal means.

A good sci fi/fantasy cross-over series. It feels similar to Dr Who in the cinematography. Easy to watch and the storyline is good. I can't wait to get the next season.

I like all things that include Amanda Tapping but this show has really got me going. It's got hot women and scary monsters and a story that will get you hooked.

It's a shame that Sanctuary didn't feature on New Zealand television, because if you didn't know about it, you are simply going to miss out. Sanctuary is an amazing program. It focuses on the lives of a team of specialists in the abnormal world. Takes them on 12 wierd and fun episodes, packed with humor, action, and Amanda Tapping! The show brings true to its main idea “a sanctuary for all” definitely worth a watch.

Love it with nothing on TV it is a great series that both hubby and I can enjoy together.

This show brings to life many of the worlds urban legends and ghost stories and then plays them out in the most fantastic locations (all done on a green screen). The characters, whose story began in the original webisodes really get fleshed out and their amazing journey begins.

Really enjoyed the series and it was great with the extra disc of bonus material.

Sanctuary is an awesome series that at the start sounds like the same old humans versus monsters series. However the thing I enjoyed most about this series is it's new take on it all. It's not a simple hunt the monster and kill it and this allows the series to go in a completely new direction never seen before.

Add to that the awesome characters, great storyline and interesting twists and this makes Sanctuary an all round great new age series that even my Mum likes, and considering its Sci fi, thats a huge compliment!

I was sceptical when my daughter suggested I give this a try, but it was well worth it. A bit slow to get into, but from the moment Jonathan Young's character appears I was completely SOLD (I refuse to spoiler that in any way for you!). Well worth a try for any fans of supernaturally/sci-fantasy sorts of stuff.

This was an easy transition for Amanda Tapping of Stargate to her british accent. Well written and easily hooked – shame there's only 4 seasons and bigger shame only one so far can be bought here – will be hanging out to watch seasons 3–4

Amanda Tapping at her best, being one of StarGate (SG1) main actors she brings her skills to this serries. It is a real pity the latest serries has been cancelled. Don't Pirate DVD's as you end up shooting yourself in the foot, if you don't support the industry then they won't last long. P.S. Mightyape I do not like buying brand new DVD sets like this that have been opened with a tell tail dirty finger print smack bang in the middle of the DVD – mmmmmm!

It is really a shame that I am unable to watch Sanctuary as it does not have subtiltes for the Deaf. I loved watching Amanda in Stargate 1. Would have enjoy watching Amanda in Sanctuary.

Didn't know what to expect but wasn't impressed – could'nt get past the bad accents and similarities with Stargate characters.

Depends what you like – as a horror yarn with ugly monsters, vampires & witches, great stuff. For me it was corny and somewhat boring to watch. There is action and cool effects, but the dialogue is slow and plodding. “Carter” is bland and doesn't portray Helen with any personality, but then she is 157 years old. I've given a low rating because its not my ‘cup of tea’, what !

Anyone whom loved Samantha Carter from Stargate will love her as the main character in Sanctuary.

The entire show is one epic thrill to the next and will certainly keep those whom believe in-thralled till the end.

A great New take on the world where the creatures of myth and legend do exist. The show fells like you've stepped into a graphic novel and has graphics you would normally only see on a movie project. The only down side is the seasons are shorter than we would get from an American made show at approx 15 episodes for this season. Still well worth a buy and a view and if you liked Amanda Tapping in Star Gate, you'll love her here with another outstanding performance.

Excellent – the characters have something special right from the start. The Visual effects get better as the series progresses. They've blended the internet shooting with the TV series really well. Great cliff hanger for season 2!

AWESOME! Go Amanda Tapping (SG1) this series is great & so very addictive, once you stop…you just want more!

Sanctuary is my new favourite sci-fi show. Just recently renewed for its 4th season. Follows an awesome cast + great regulars.

Helen, played by Amanda Tapping is gorgeous, she tries to protect abnormal from humans and vice-versa.

Wonderful storylines, great humour. Real touching emotion too.

Only bad thing I can say is its only 13 episodes a season!

I totally recommend any Stargate fan or a fan of sci-fi in general to check this show out.

Sanctuary has won awards for its web episodes and for the first season. and yes a great price.

An expansive world where Abnormals walk among us and the Santuary is one of the few safe havens, A world network of safehavens. Great series with a twist on the story of Vampires, Jack the Ripper, Sherlock Holmes and Nikola Tesla. Amanda Tapping with dark hair and an English accent, gold.

Must see for all Sci-fi fantasy fans.
