"A-MA-ZING"
5 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

This is a fantastic western shooter.

The guns feel fantastic, the graphics are beautiful, and the game play is both challenging and rewarding

Fantastic game by Rockstar and other than a few minor texture issues I have found nothing wrong with it.

A lot of people would think that a game as big as Red Dead Redemption would think that there would be issues in terms of the physics engine. Rockstar have really outdone themselves in this and the only places I have seen issues is whilst watching reviews of the game.

Overall, a fantastic game, great for anyone, right from the hardcore gaming addict to someone who wishes to just enjoys a small amount of gaming every so often

""You are living in a Sergio Leone movie.""

Purchased on Mighty Ape

Rockstar's new western epic have once again struck the core of the open-world games, Red Dead Redemption immerse you into an epic western tale with its amazing scenery design and gameplay. I have been playing for 3 days and nights straight since I've got this game and clocked it. The missions are fun and the story is moving, even when you are not doing any story missions the activities you can do during free-roam and the random encounters will keep you immersed. The only problem with the game is the occasional graphical glitches and the cut scene will freeze at one particular mission and you will have to wait a few minutes for the game to react, but since all of these problems will eventually be patched, don't worry too much, get it and love it.

"Masters of Wild West Realism" Purchased on Mighty Ape

On hearing about Rockstars endeavor to publish another great gaming platform, I had to investigate. With the great success of GTA series, this game would have to set the standards pretty high. My first thought was “How good would the game interaction be in relation to the gaming controls”.On first use you do not find yourself out of the realm of natural feel of the game, controls are set in a manner that whatever you feel is necessary it can be quickly executed whether it be drawing a gun to riding a horse, it has good flow . The start is very similar to GTA4 with a good introduction into the game storyline, and with the crisp graphics and the notion of being a possible outlaw or hero , you cannot wait to start slinging your weapon and draw your own destiny throughout the game. You constantly feel like you are in a Clint Eastwood movie with events & places similarly placed in "The Quick,The Dead and the Ugly and "Sundown at the O.K Carale ". This only heightens the mood when playing and gets you motivated to carry out any task put before you. This is one aspect of the game as it also hosts one of the biggest realms in multiplayer mode, I haven't really looked to far into this as I'm half way threw the game and as time goes on and more and more people start the multiplayer function of the game it will re-invent the way I play online . I did have a few games online but I think it needs more people playing online before it really takes off. I'd give it a 9 out of 10 for graphics and ingenuity and a 8 out of 10 for different events you can play in the game.

"Yet another Rockstar classic!"
5 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

Presentation: 10/10 Finally Rockstar actually includes a main menu, instead of just loading straight to the single player. The loading screen, the main and in-game menus are all innovative and beautiful.

Graphics: 10/10 I read somewhere that Rockstar used the same engine it had for GTA IV. Well I dont know what happened but this game looks way better and the fact that it manages this despite having an even bigger world than Liberty City, adds to the awe. The attention to detail is excellent, from character expressions to muscle on animals. The animations are fantastic, from the startled reaction of pointing the gun on an innocent to getting the horse you are riding on, shot and going flying in the air.

Sound: 10/10 Personally I am not a fan of this kind of music but its obviously necessary to have contextual music suited to a Wild West game. The voice acting is fantastic and again you have your attention to detail in animal noises, people rambling etc.

Gameplay: 9.5/10 You can do pretty much everything you have been used to doing in a Rockstar game, except adapted for the Wild West. The sidegames/activities like poker, movies (which are short and funny), five fish fillet, shooting duels, optional sidequests like saving people from a pack of animals or a mob are a whole lot of fun and do not feel like a chore unlike GTA IV's bowling, dart etc. The new Red Eye shooting mechanic is awesome, everything slows down, allowing you to aim at different people and different parts of their bodies. Its more fun than the VATS system from Fallout 3. However, there are too many small and annoying bugs which seem to pop up randomly. Most of these seem to be related to your horse. In one of the earlier missions, I whistled to call a horse, which came running and stood next to me. However, I could not mount it or call another one. I had to walk for like 15 minutes to reach a save point since I had just finished a mission.

Lasting Appeal: 10/10 The single player with all its side games and activities, should take a good 20hrs. The game is sold out everywhere, so expect a lot of people online to play the fun multiplayer.

Overall: 9.5/10 The annoying bugs are a let down and really shouldnt be in the final version of a highly anticipated game as this. That apart, the single player missions start off slow (animal herding missions!), but then go onto become one of the most thrilling and satisfying campaigns in recent memory. The new Red Eye is fantastic and fun. The side game/activities are a whole lot of fun. The multiplayer is awesome, from duels to deathmatches and my favourite ‘free roam’, where you have the whole map and join posses (groups) with other people and do missions together or just turn it into a free for all.

I personally still think GTA IV is the best that Rockstar has developed. Thats more due to the small bugs in this game. However, for those who did not like GTA IV, dont take it literally. They are two very different games. Its not just GTA IV western style and you owe it to yourself to try it out.

"Yet another Rockstar Classic!"
5 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

Presentation: 10/10 Rockstar has actually added a main menu screen to this game, unlike their GTA games, and its beautiful. The loading screen is innovative and all the in-game menus look great and are easy to use.

Graphics: 10/10 I read somewhere that Rockstar used the same engine for this game as GTA IV, but trust me, it looks way better than GTA IV. GTA IV's graphics were really good for an open-world game and a full sized Liberty City but this game's world is massive and way bigger and it still manages to look better. So one has to commend Rockstar for that. The maximum resolution is still 720p for this game on a PS3, so that is a let down if you have 1080p tv like me but its still a looker. The animations are very realistic, for example, you go flying in the air, if you are riding a horse at full speed and it gets shot and the realistic panic when you point a gun at an innocent, or a poor soul getting dragged by the outlaws with a lasso. You can see tiny details like the muscles of the horse.

Sound: 10/10 Rockstar always nails the voice acting and sound effects and it continues that with this game. The voice acting is excellent. I have never been a big fan of the music from the west but you can't blame them for having a relevant soundtrack for this game. It serves its purpose. Every person sounds different and says a seemingly infinite number of different things depending on the circumstance.

Gameplay: 9.5/10 You can do everything, you expect to be able to do in a Rockstar open-world game like GTA. There are a wide variety of missions, from hunting to horse races to taming horses to the more serious story missions. The new Red Eye shooting system is even more fun than the VATS system from Fallout 3, where everything gets slowed down and allows you to take a good aim at who and where you want to shoot at. It's not perfect though. It has its fair share of annoying bugs, especially to do with the horses. They never stay in one place and seem to disappear if you are away from them for too long. Also, I came across this problem where, my horse was right next to me (as indicated by the map) but I couldnt mount it. These small bugs aside, and some of the rather slow missions which start off the game, like herding packs of different animals, its a massive open world with a lot to do, which is fun, more often than not. The sidegames are a lot of fun and range from poker to five fillets and are really lifelike and fun. The in-game movie theatres have some original and funny – short silent movies, well worth watching.

Lasting Appeal: 10/10 Once you get through the slow start, its an exciting and fun game which should take you atleast 20 hours to finish. There is a lot to do. When you are travelling between lands, random blue spots pop-up on the map, indicating, an optional mission you can undertake. These are very fun and range from saving people from packs of wolves to taking out a whole mob of thieves and their head. The multiplayer is a lot of fun. With not too many good games around, and given people arent still obsessing over Modern Warfare 2 and Bad Company 2, you should see a fair lot of people to play this game with online. Theres a whole load of multiplayer options from, free roam where you meet up with other people and do missions together or just turn it into a free for all, last man standing, to proper deathmatches, duels, etc.

Overall: 9.9/10 For me, GTA IV is still the best that Rockstar has developed to date. This game looks way better, has an excellent and fun new aiming mechanic in Red Eye, has plenty of sidegames and activities which are actually a whole lot of fun rather than GTA IV's bowling etc which seemed like a chore to me but the annoying bugs are what keep it from beating GTA IV. GTA IV had its fair share too but none as noticeable as the ones present here. To be honest, these should not be present in the final version of a much anticipated game but hopefully they will be taken care of through a patch and they actually do not detract from the thrilling experience this game has to offer.

People who did not like GTA IV, should not let the fact that I think this isnt better than that game, stop them from getting this one. They are two totally different games and one owes it to themselves to give it a shot.

I'm really enjoying the fun, open and casual nature of this game so far. Great story and characters, lots to do, nice big world to play around in. Multiplayer free roam is a really model for online play too – suits lots of different play styles.

"Beyond all expectations."

I was originally very skeptical about this game, there have been a lot of “wild west” games in the last few years, none of them looked very appealing.

However, after a friend of mine visited, and brought his copy of this game along with him, I was converted, I absolutely love this game, the story is brilliant, the graphics are quite something, and the gameplay is essentially perfect. I truly have nothing bad to say about this game.

"Exceptional"

Games set in the days of cowboys don't usually turn out very well, but Red Dead Redemption changes that. It is one of the best open world sandbox games since Grand Theft Auto 4. It is a game full of great action, interesting characters and a great story. The single player campaign will take around 20 hours to complete which is not including all of the extra things you can do such as poker, black jack, liar's dice, horse shoes and so much more. Then there is the multiplayer. The entire single player world is open to explore in multiplyer with 15 other people. You can create a posse of 8 people and join more standard multiplayer modes such as team deathmatch. Red Dead Redemption is one of the best games I have and is an excellent game to add to anyone's collection.

"One Step Closer To A Truly Interactive Movie"
5 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

There comes a time in the life of a mature gamer when he or she will look back at all the games they've played over the decades, and remember wistfully the simple times they had on the simpler systems they used.

Playing Red Dead Redemption is NOT one of those times. Red Dead Redemption is – for those of us brought up on Westerns on TV and at the movies – completely immersive, graphically lyrical and deeply compelling. Although the holy grail of a genuine interactive movie-like experience still hasn't been fully realized, Red Dead Redemption comes pretty damn close.

My expectations were high, because Rockstar have been consistently great with their sandbox games. Maybe too great, as I have had so much fun enjoying their last world I've still yet to bother finishing the main story of GTA IV. You can blame a fixation with the “car cannon” and the general urge to tool around Liberty City causing mayhem for that. But it has to be said that Red Dead Redemption is so much more than the “Grand Theft Stallion” I was expecting. Setting the game in the Old West was a masterstroke – when exploring the territory it can feel like you really are the first person to see that world. The world itself feels raw and gritty, the characters you meet not quite so larger-than-life and better for it. (Hands up – who out there who played GTA IV didn't want to take Brucie and drop-kick him off the the top of the Statue Of Happiness after a while? Genetically different, my ass)

The last game that grabbed my attention and drew me into it's world so completely was Fallout 3. And in some ways they are variations on a similar theme – in both games you are the lone outsider on a mission involving family having to deal with a harsh and unforgiving environment, forced to make moral choices that affect the dealings of those around you.

I could ramble on for a while, but it comes down to this. If you love GTA in all it's myriad incarnations and clones, buy this game. If you love westerns, BUY THIS GAME.

"One of the best of the year."
5 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

Red Dead Redemption is a fantastic game. Tonnes of freedom, the world itself is great fun despite it being mostly desert and plains. Heaps of random events to keep the game fresh and feel real. Story is pretty good, as are the characters. The graphics are good, not great, but still pretty good. Heaps of challenges and other stuff to keep you going and the multiplayer is really good too. For me this is about a 9 out of 10.

Quite a lot of glitches (as is the case with any sandbox game) but some of them are quite amusing. A few other small nuances that I can't seem to think of at the moment.

Overall, great game, if you like sandbox games, GTA, westerns, or just shooters, give it a look.

"You will not be disappointed"
5 stars"

This game is truly amazing. It is very similar to Grand Theft Auto IV because it is a massive, free roam map in which you can go anywhere you want to. It has very similar controls to GTA IV and the physics engine used is very similar, although greatly improved.

Something I found interesting about this game was that Rockstar added a form of morale monitoring to the game, meaning you can be known throughout the west as a Heroic Gunslinger or a Ruthless Outlaw depending on how you react to certain random events. which affects the way civilians, shop-keepers and lawmen react to seeing you. This was particularly interesting because it is the first time Rockstar has implemented anything like this into a game.

The main way to travel is by horse, which you can call for at any time and I was amazed at the realism of the horses, they have immense detail put into how they move and react to various situations.

The mini-games in Red Dead Redemption are very entertaining, they do not feel like a chore like they do in GTA IV. This is particularly the case for poker, which kept me amused for hours. You can even cheat! (if you have the right outfit)

The storyline was a bit dry at the start but became very interesting as the game progressed. The ending was one of the best ending I have ever seen to a video game, it doesn't even begin to compare to GTA IV's ending.

Overall I'd give this game a 9 out of 10 because of the occasional texture jump and glitch (such as randomly sinking into the ground) but nothing you will notice while you play.

And don't even get me started on how awesome the online play is…

Great game unfortunately lost interest in the multiplayer, very quickly which is the main reason i brought it,to play with friends,Single play is great with much more to do,multiplayer is good till u reach level 27 then u find it very hard to level, also very repetitive other than that very well made game by Rockstar.

"Strangely dissapointing"
4 stars"

I see all the great reviews for this game, and just feel a little confused. The graphics aren't that great, and the characters do unspeakable things one minute. and are hailed as saints the next. If you liked GTA you'll like this, and I guess I'm in the minority of those who don't.

"Epic"
5 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

Seriously stunning graphics. Seriously stunning natural sound. Just loved seeing the sun rising over the sea. The guns feel like a part of you and your horse is your best friend. Intuitive controls. Excellent. Gameplay wise it is better than GTA but still has the same close combat issues when trying to face a specific opponent. Especially those darned pesky wolves! I found the game to be quite buggy but happily not in a way that affected the storyline. Poker in particular would have continually incorrect card info but this didn't affect the correct outcome of the hand. Enjoyed the main character. The voice acting is very good. The background AI is complex enough to not be overly repetitive and the animals are very realistic except in two respects. One: Wolves don't attack everything constantly on sight. Two: Bears don't attack in pairs. The only other issue I have is that your character dies so easily at the hint of water. Sure he can't swim, but come on. And horses can swim, so why does he drown when the horse steps into water? Anyway, plenty to do. Beautiful vistas that you occasionally have to stop and enjoy, and totally immersive sound design. The ending is very serious and not quite what you would expect from Rockstar and I applaud them for the risk. Overall, I very much enjoyed the game. Hope the DLC is out soon!

"An amazing story"
4 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

Rockstar have spent years on Red Dead Redemption, attempting to craft a great narrative and a fun multiplayer and they have succeeded. The story is interesting and instead of delivering a cliche ending, it provides a bit of a twist. After story mode, there is the interesting multiplayer which provides hundred of unlockables as you progress through the ranks to become a true Wild West Hero

"This Is One Of Those Must Have Games"
5 stars"

To be fair, at first I didn't take much notice of RDR, Then I saw the Limited Edition Pre-Order Special and thought, Meh, May as well check It out, And boy am I glad I did. Who would of thought Roaming the west, saving strangers from bandits, breaking in horses, finding treasure, camping out in the desert, Gun-slinging shootouts, and becoming so famous, everywhere you go, people know your name, would be so much fun. It's voice acting is awesome, it's graphics are detailed. It has it's bugs, but you hardly notice them, plus I think a patch is on it's way.

Bottom line, If you want a game that'll never get old, add this puppy to your collection.

"Spaghetti Western splendor"

Purchased on Mighty Ape

Rockstar have a reputation for building great games. It's a given. This game could have just been a western grand theft auto, but it isn't by half. Free ranging and beautifully detailed environments. Incredibly vivid lighting and weather. Clever Story lines are the norm for these guys but this goes beyond what has come before. Ok no skydiving bit who needs it! Stunning and splendid, with shoot-outs to boot!

"Another Rockstar masterpiece"
5 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

Red Dead Redemption redefines the standard for open world sandbox gaming. Set in 1911, Red Dead Redemption takes players back to the days of the ‘Western’. It has all that you would expect including horses, a lasso, retro weapons, and basically anything else you expect to be around in 1911 (excluding children). The media is going crazy about this game and I am not surprised as this game is already a big contender for GOTY.

"It truly is redemption"
4 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

Everything rockstar has done in their previous gta games that has irked you, forget it as this game fixes every complaint I've ever had about the style of gameplay in the gta series. Horses are fun to ride, john controls brilliantly and every weapon is fun to use. Multiplayer is a blast (if you have friends to play with, as online is a little barren). Enemies are fun to fight and the world feels like a real living, breathing place. Rattlesnakes bit you, irate mexicans challenge you to duels and you can even engage in a bar brawl at your whim. The only thing stopping this game from getting 5 stars is the lack of a doctors certificate included in the game. Its so involving that you need three or four hours to really get the feel of the game – something thats not practical without calling work sick.

Excellent graphics, excellent sound design, and immaculate gameplay all combine to make Read Dead Redemption perhaps the best open world game ever made. The world in which this gripping storyline takes place is filled with random encounters and activities to keep you occupied while you traverse the Wild West, and this is definately its chief appeal. Do not miss out!

"Hours of gun-slinging, six-shooter fun!"
4 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

I must admit that when I heard about this game I quickly went online and ordered it, simply because I've been a fan of the Grand Theft Auto series which Rockstar have produced over the years.

The thought of a similar sized game full of the freedom to do as you wish but set in a spaghetti western style sounded fantastic and in most regards it lives up to what you would expect from a Rockstar game of that type.

As John Marsden, the player is thrown into an immersive world of massive proportions and can choose the path of a law assisting good man or an outlaw. While it seems to have more benefits to be a good guy, it seems to be more fun to be a bad guy. The mechanics of most of the game play are directly taken from GTA4 but the setting, characters and other additions do take it away from a copycat/spin off feel.

The story and missions are of very high quality just as in GTA4. Very compelling dialogue, fun missions that aren't too repetitive most of the time and characters that you enjoy to get to know. Possibly the only portion that can get tiring is the constant galloping around to get anywhere, but this can be avoided as you garner more cash.

There are little things that can annoy, as with any game. It also cannot be said that it is groundbreaking because in a lot of ways this is GTA but in a different setting… But that in itself is nowhere near being a bad thing! It is definitely worth picking up and has a lot more longevity than simply hiring the game. A must play for any Rockstar fan.

Oh and I should also mention… It looks amazing!

"Skin everything."
5 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

Without a single doubt this is the best game to come out this year thus far. Comparisons to it's older sibling GTAIV are unavoidable. To put it simply this game is superior to the aforementioned title in almost every way. The size and scope of the game world is much larger with something to do almost everywhere you go. It's just fun to get on your horse and ride in any direction across the badlands that make up the majority of the game map. Something Rock star forgot was so important to the GTA series. The gun play is far smoother and intuitive and there for a lot more fun. Dead eye – the games version of bullet time is a joy to use and allows you to dispatch enemies quickly and efficiently, giving you a great sense of power. The characters and story are much more grounded in reality. They people you meet in the game are far more believable than those that you would find in the GTA series. This is neither better or worse, just something to take note of. The story is excellent and will keep you playing all the way up to its conclusion. The sound and visuals are all top notch. Lighting is excellent and environmental effects are very atmospheric and captured perfectly. Gunshots sound beautiful and deadly. They all have a real brutal punch which is compounded by the excellent real time reactions from your targets. Voice acting is excellent all around and the music is incredibly moody and fits perfectly. Hunt animals, hog tie nuns, drag drunkards around the land behind your horse, rob or rescue, jump into the fully featured multi-player, get ambushed by cougars, punch a bear. There's an incredible amount to see and do. If you are at all a fan of third person sand box games this is one title you need to have. Buy it.

"Over hyped and over rated"
2 stars"

While this game has amazing physics and map developments, it has its ups and downs. single player story is great. and very strong so it will touch you. but other than that the game was a disappointment to me.

many things are lacking, many people most people would enjoy, you cannot drive the trains, you cannot ride anything other than a horse either, or a donkey. the rockstar we know would let us ride the bears for all they care. so when your mission is all the way across the map, it will take you a good 10mins to get there, which WILL annoy and bore you. but you can deal with that.

biggest fault of this game is that, after you finish the story mode, there is nothing to do other than multiplayer, single player will bore you. its nothing like GTA where you can play it for years and enjoy it.

the multiplayer is a major failure. just google " red dead redemption multiplayer dead" you will discover many forums with people saying the same thing. the multiplayer is wayy over hyped. and is completely deserted. and when you do find the odd person. its still absolutely boring.

so with the single player outa the picture, and multiplayer as crap as it is. i returned my copy. and am quite satisfied with my choice.

"It's GTA IV all over again In a bad way"
2 stars"

When I saw the footage of this, i was put off instantly, Rockstar, or at any rate free-roaming games have a tendency to get VERY boring after you have completed the campaign. sure you can go and explore find other towns and do side missions, but while something like a knife rhythm game might sound interesting, it was just a mask for “Press these buttons at the right time”. It is also polluted with silly glitches, while they are not “Game-breaking” they do throw off the atmosphere.

furthermore, people are already calling this the “Game of the year,” It's only June people there are bigger releases than this.

finally much like GTA IV, once people had gotten past the “Amazing” graphics, it was very bland and boring, so in my opinion, red dead redemption is just a GTA in the wild west.

"A great game brought to its knees by bugs"
4 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

Sweeping vistas, colourful characters, game breaking bugs. This apparently is what rockstar envision as the old west. Read dead is a masterpiece, don't get me wrong, this game transports you into a living breathing recreation of the wild west. Where you can do anything you would imagine you could do in a western game: Play poker, have duels, tame horses, rob people, hunt and skin animals, evade the “Law” the list goes on. This aspect of Red Dead Redemption is amazing.

However before buying this game people should know that the amount of bugs in single player is massive, I've had everything turn invisible from my character to all the guns in the world. Enemies occasionally gliche into the side of a mountain rendering the current mission unable to be completed. At first the bugs were amusing, now they are painful.

I personally know 5 people that own this game and of the 6 of us only 1 person is able to get online and play without an error message. This is not right, having paid $109 for a game that won't let me play a major part of it.

I was able to play online briefly before the first patch, and I had fun. With further patches maybe my friends and I will be able to play online and enjoy a game clean from bugs.So I am begrudgingly forced to give Red Dead 4 stars, Which just goes to show how amazing a game there is buried beneath broken code and bugs

Red dead redemption is basically GTA with horses. It is a freeroam game set in the wild west, where you play as John Marston. It is a great game with tight controls, great graphics and an amazing storyline.

I am however a bit bored, and i have not even completed the second area of the game yet (20hrs in though!). I am sure however that the pace will pick up again soon and i will go back to greatly enjoying it.

It is a long game that will last for 20+hours, and is definately a must buy for anyone that has enjoyed GTA games in the past, or wishes to experience the best wild west game created.

This is a good game, the map is big, lots to do – although there's a lot of going back and forward, and the constant sepia colours can make visuals hard to make out sometime.

Late review I know but this is allready one of the great classics. Rockstar games have achieved another succes with this one and set the bar really high for other game developers. This game set in the West obviously, will have you play it for days. Gameplay is good, graphics are good, storyline is good, all in all just a brilliant game, too good to be missed !

"Good game"

This is a really cool game to play because there isn't many western games out there.

The missions can get a bit repetitive and the start is a bit slow but overall a good game and worth the money.

Of course I have heard plenty about this title since its release, and when the price was right I grabbed it.
Although I am not really a RPG or shoot'em'up fan primarily, I am very much enjoying this game. It's like a western movie where you are the central character.. recommended..

Great game, real easy to play, with some real innovative gameplay that make the whole experience very authentic.

The horse riding and gunplay is bang on, and also adds to the wild west feel. Graphics are very real, as is the environment, the tracks and scenery, and when the weather turns bad, it just looks and feels so real, and effect the game in a very genuine way.

I can't recommend this game enough, if ya loved the GTA series, this is gonna blow ya mind

"Game of the Year 2010!"
5 stars"

Rock Star, the makers of the gritty and best selling Grand Theft Auto series, have out done themselves with the “2010 Game of the Year”. This is NOT “Grand Theft Horse”, it is a beautifully presented classic Western tale, where you play a retired outlaw, drawn back by the lawmen to do their bidding. You are faced with moral decisions at every turn, and you can choose who you want your character to be. With Multiplayer, this game has unlimited playability, with thousands going online daily to do missions by themselves or co-operatively. Simply the Best PS3 title so far.

"An Amazing Game"
5 stars"

I bought this thinking that it'd be like GTA but on horses, and it is! It is so much fun and just like in GTA you don't always have to be doing missions and there are random side-quests to do.

The music just fits the game so well, it gives you the heeby jeebys when you listen to it. Like that nostalgic good memory feeling.

The storyline is great, the characters are great, the whole gam just makes you feel like you are acutally in the wild west.

With the horses you can upgrade them overtime and in the Undead Nightmare game you can get mythical horses which are also GREAT.

Seriously, it's going to be hard for another game to top this. It is my new favourite.

One of my favourite memory's when playing the game with my sister, she fell over a steep hill/cliff while riding her horse and so she pushed the button to get back on the horse, but she skinned it instead!

"Superb gaming experience"
5 stars"

Red Dead Redemption is an all around amazing game but for me it's strongest attribute was the writing. The plot and characters are really, really good and if you're a fan of great writing you'll appreciate RDR as something more than a video game.

As a game RDR is a lot of fun. So many different things for you to do have been packed in and all work really well and are fun. The main story missions will take about 20 hours and, in my opinion, is enough to justify buying the game but there's so much more. I'm gonna step into the multiplayer tomorrow… I love this game!

"Awesome story, great gameplay."

This is a amazing game. The storyline is very well done and emotional. Its a western free roaming game with many quests which are all exciting from start to finish. It takes well over 20 hours to finish, and thats just the main quests. It also has side quests. You will meet a great number of characters on your travels, and the characters are very entertaining. It has dozens of cut scenes, maybe the length of a full movie, and its very interesting because it's so well written. The voice actors are awesome, I dont know who did the voices but they are tremendous. All of the characters have unique personalitys and you can really feel that coming through. I could go on forever but every aspect of this game from the map markers, the unique ways to travel, the many kinds of wildlife like herds of buffalos and beers you can hunt, and all the real western games you can play in saloons is perfectly well done. The graphics are good. When I had finished the game, I was disappointed because I wanted it to go on forever. Its that good.

"Greatly Exceeded My Expectations!"
5 stars"

Hands down Red Dead Redemption is the best Open World game I ever played.

The story and soundtrack are top notch, the graphics are amazing! The weapons are great fun to use, the horse riding mechanic is excellent, and after using the “Dead Eye” mode, you'll wish every game had it.

While the story missions can get a little repetitive a times, all the various side quests and challenges are enough to keep you entertained for quite some time.

If your a fan of cowboys, shootouts, bar brawls and lassoing bank robbers while riding horseback. Then Red Dead Redemption is for you.

"9.5/10... Oh yeah"
5 stars"

To say this is a western grand theft auto does not do it any justice. This is an awesome game in its own right. I very rarely buy games, but my dusty old wallet came out for this one!!! 9.5/10.

"A nice change of Open RPG"
5 stars"

I like this game… The Open RPG genre has taken command of many different era or gameplay styles. Elder Scrolls (and others like it) does the Magic gameplay. GTA does the modern era. Red Dead Redemption uses this formula in the classic western era.

The gameplay is a lot of fun, once you run the first few introduction missions… As a newbie I'd suggest you run through these before you explore on your own. Initially one part of the map is open to you the other two parts will open up as you progress in the story line, the classic GTA method of curbing the overly curious!

I love the map and I have found myself wandering aimlessly just to see what's out there in the world. You will find random missions that appear in the form of people running up to you and pleading for help, you can choose to ignore these; you can also hunt, gamble, and duel. The sound was great loved it all… Even those sounds which eventually become background noise, screeching eagle etc. The artwork is what you would come to expect from a top quality game and is the vocal acting all good.

In all the game is great fun and makes a good change from the usual open RPGers. It pokes fun at the old westerns and uses Americas' western historic elements to create its own plausible history. There is an online component too with co-op gameplay and PvP in its various forms.

"Ye olde gta "
5 stars"

It would be mean to say this is just gta with horses but that's the fastest way to describe it spanning across two country's this epic western is every Clint Eastwood film every dusty charming cowboy film all tossed in a blender to create a new standard for rock star breaking free from the “yo home dawg” gangs of rock stars other release's the gangs in this epic are the real deal taming the lawless country is one of the main themes of the story

"Better than GTAIV by a mile."
5 stars"

Red Dead Redemption is simply a fantastic game. It may not be as long or as big as a game like say Oblivion, but with truly quality missions, a GREAT story, and intensely fun multiplayer action, Red Dead Redemption is easily the best game to come out so far in 2010.

"How the wild west really was"

If you are a fan of other Rockstar games then you will absolutly love this game. Amazing free roam map. What can be better than jumping on the back of a horse and blasting anything that moves away. A indepth story mode that see's you exploring the world while completing various missions. including hunting ,helping strangers & bounty hunting. Online play well with so much to choose from co-op missions to free roam , gang matches the list go's on. If your new to these styles of games just change your settings to casual targerting in the options and just lock on & shoot, what could be easier. And amazing no real lag to speak of when online unlike other servers ie:mw2. So if your still sitting reading this then wake up & by the game.

"Really Fun game but not much to do once the story is complete"
4 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

First of all I am not a fan of GTA games, but this game is awesome.

Its set in the wild west and you play as John Marston, a ex outlaw that has tried to turn his life around but is sucked back into to out law ways when his family is kidnapped by the government. He is then forced to hunt down and kill or capture his old gang that left him to die after he was shot in a robbery gone wrong.

That is as much of the story as I want to post since I hate reviews that post spoilers.

This is amazingly polished. That not to say there arent bugs, there are bug but in most cases they are hilarious and don't effect the game in any way which pisses you off. Its so polished that when there is a glitch like a box floating in mid air it sticks out like a sore thumb. In other games you might not notice this.

Once you have completed the story (about 16 ish hours long) you can continue playing and try to get 100%. One of the fun bits of the game not related to the story would be the challenges. This mode unlocks early in the game. It sets you tasks like kill 5 birds, or kill a bear with a only a knife, or collect 4 prickly fruit etc. Once you complete the challenges you unlock weapons at the gun smith for you to buy or new items at the store.

RDR also feature lots of mini games like arm wrestling, breaking in horses, house shoe tossing, duels, poker, black jack, liars dice, five finger fillet . I didn't really spend much time on these as I didn't find them much fun, but other people seem to love them.

Online multiplayer is ok, when I try to log on there is never anyone else playing. That might be because I am playing at 3 am in the morning though. When I do find other people playing it is a lot of fun. Rockstar has also released some FREE co-op DLC that gives new trophy's which was really nice of them. That works nicely if you have local friends to play with.

If you get this game make sure you sign up for RockStars social club as it unlocks extra features in the game.

Who ever thought it would be so much fun roaming the range on your trusty stead shooting at the wildlife and bringing bad guys to justice. Red Dead Redemption has exceeded all my expectations with the rolling scenery the detail that has been put into the scenery and animals (especially the horses) and the interaction with in game characters as you progress through the game. Being able to whistle up your horse is such a nice touch. Watch out for those rattle snakes and any attack from a mountain lion will take your horse right out from under you. Recommend adding this to your collection and ride the range you know you want to you've always wanted to be a cowboy now here's your chance.
