Operation Flashpoint: Red River reviews

OFP: Red River is almost not a game as much as it is a military simulator. As a squad leader, you need to order your squad around using an easy-to-use command wheel if you (and the rest of you allies) are to survive the harsh battlefields of Tajikistan.

Unlike Call of Duty or Battlefield, making a head-on cavalry charge to your enemies is a big no no as you can die in two hits. You wanna survive- Then you need to imitate the tactics the soldiers use in movies like Black Hawk Down and the Hurt Locker; you need to take cover and suppress their position, even if it means wasting ammo that won't hit them…because they wont' hit you either (hopefully).

My only major gripe with Red River is that the AI can occasionally be dumb but compensates with the superior marksmanship of your squadmates (these guys can make more kills than me).

You want a game that immerses you in a real-life battlefield- Well, get Operation Flashpoint: Red River.

Great game but not for beginers its really hard:)

This game is fantastic and it's great to see such a high quality game that doesn't follow the COD format. A very challenging game that will keep you coming back for more.

Flashpoint: Red River Allright gameplay ,nice graphics however Long un-skippable Cinematics that make the game feel like such a drag , quite difficult at times , great use of tactical commands . Overall worth price paid

lovin it, it's like ghost recon in the way you have a squad of 4 people who you can give orders to and you're easily killed.

the differences are that you can heal yourself or be healed at any time. healing takes two stages – stop the bleeding then recover. Also if you die (or a teammate dies) you can reload a checkpoint rather than start the whole thing again.

graphics are ok but don't make a game.

For those of you that don't like getting killed by one shot, then this is not the game for you. Also, if you like the arcade type fighting and reviving from other FPS games then this is not for you.

Glitches that could have made this game so much better. Getting into and out of vehicles, team mates following orders, the fustration of what your next objective is.

So what positive can I get from this – some sense of realism in battle. Your enemy may not be in close quarters but can be far away. Using different weapon classes for your character and the different upgrades to weapons available makes sure that there is certain amount of playability.

Most certainly a sale purchase only

Long ass cut scenes and you spend like 5 minutes running to the extraction point with no action on the way. Playing motion isnt smooth at all

Can't put it down . . . . I think sleep is overrated anyway yeah!

Once you learn the controls of working your troops, it's well worth the challenge, wicked game!

Now I play lots of fps's most of my game collection is COD Halo and Battlefield. I bought this game after being dissapointed with the complete lack of teamwork and realism for battlefield 3, and this game will not dissapoint. Its amazing, the graphics, unlike what everyone says, are just fine. They are horrible at all nor are they “barely tolerable”. For the price thise game is a very very good deal, I recommend it to anyone who wishes they could play ArmA or Project reality but dont have a computer. Even though there isnt competitive multiplayer you can work in squads with 3 other people and even without mics you still work together as a team. If you play Call of Duty then dont buy this game unless you enjoy running out of cover for half a second and getting destroyed by enemy bullets.People seem to complain about the long cutscenes, now some people might dislike them, but personally I love them due to a love of war movies and series such as Generation Kill. Overall a great game with fantastic graphics and gameplay.

Was quite surprise, totally worth trying and at an incredibly low price, have seen this elsewhere for over $80

A good game with plenty of single and online play. Has a few issues and could do with a polish up, but runs fine and provides a very enjoyable gaming experience.

Realism stops being fun when your 3 inches from a target holding a RPG and you cant melee. Other than the apparent lack of knuckles, this is a brilliant dynamic and interesting game with really boring extraction sequences consisting of siting in a jeep or helicopter for too long. Ok so there are quite a few drawbacks but unlike COD there are plenty of redeeming points.

This game is very appealing to the eye, however the gameplay and controllability just isnt up to the standard FPS expected in todays gaming world

Let's be honest. The original OFP and even Dragon Rising are too hard (therefore boring) to most of FPS gamers. Red River, in my opinion, figured out a relevantly good balance between reality combat simulation and entertainment. Though you still cannot play rambo style which is the way how Battlefield or COD works, you will get some decent CQB scenes with a simple “follow me” command to your fire team. On the other hand, you can order your fire team to get most of the jobs done for you if you like playing tactics and organising. It's now easier to control your fire team as well as the individual members of it with simplified command menu. Another good thing is that some screen configurations in Hardcore model can now be used in Normal model as well. The only disappointment is the fire team AI, though the AI performance is better than its prequel, it is still not as good as I expected. The graphic is good but not excellent.

In short, if you are a hardcore original OFP or ArmA fan, don't buy this one. If you are tired of being an one man army in Battlefield or COD and want something fresher and different, this is your game.

Getting back to what flashpoint use to be although still not as good as the original But enjoyed it just the same,definitely Better than the second flashpoint game Dragon Rising.

I ordered this game off mighty ape not knowing what to expect as i have never played a flashpoint game before and i wasn't disappointed. If you are looking for more of a call of duty type game then this one wouldn't fall under that category (don't get me wrong i am the biggest fan of the call of duty's) This game is more strategic having to order your team around and pach up your wounds before you bled out and die which makes this game very hard. any way to finish up if you are looking for a game like ghost recon but better then order this one , if you are looking for more of a call of duty type game watch some videos befor you buy this to see if you like.

Great delivery got here the next day and outstanding game should have bought it a long time ago.

Transitions (cut scences) in between missions take too long and you cant skip them!.
