Great graphics across all platforms, visually stunning expansive sci-fi landscapes and extensive character levelling and customisation possibilities, but these aren't all that make Destiny a great game.
The alien and robotic threats you face on each of the many game worlds are incredibly varied and interesting, have huge bags of tricks (and use them!) and bosses that will keep you guessing and fighting for your life. The FPS element is different from others in its emphasis on energy weapon and melee combat, speed and and 3D mobility. Your guardian character is super fast and nimble, allowing you to engage enemies in interesting and satisfying ways, and evade them when necessary.
Only gripes are that it can get quite hard, especially if you challenge yourself, combat can get repetitive (especially given the above) and mostly consists of you surviving waves of enemies as you progress through planetary phases performing simple tasks – what keeps things interesting is the environments and dynamic enemy combatants that will keep you reeling.
The environments can get a bit familiar the more you play as multiple missions within a planet often take place within the same particular part of it. However, the environments are still breathtaking, diverse and are a joy to explore multiple times over – mainly because of the game's art direction and visual style, which is striking and unique, although a bit halo-esque.
All in all a fantastic game and the birth of a successful IP that should keep people buzzing for years to come with new challenges, bosses and extensive levelling and customisation possibilities. The expansive MMO nature of the game means Bungie will keep updating the game world with new content to keep fans coming back for more.
Also, is is important to mention that the multiplayer game mode (where you fight other guardians rather than team up with them) is awesome fun and adds an extra exciting, competitive aspect to the game other than MMO co-op.
Don't sleep on this one!
